The Objective
To maximize and increase the towing capacity of a ½-ton pickup truck, while staying within mandated state gross vehicle weight (GVW) laws.
The Solution
Constructed entirely of high-grade aluminum, a unique fifth-wheel trailer was developed that maintains a 7,000 GVW capacity, staying within tongue weight limits of heavy half-ton pickups. How does it work? Utilizing a one-of-a-kind loading feature, this trailer uses a hydraulic shock inside the telescoping hitch. This feature controls the rate of descent as the trailer goes over center, while a lock over the twin 3,500-lb. torque flex axles holds the wheels in place. As the wheels move forward, the back of the trailer simply drops down. The telescoping hitch is equipped with a 30-inch long, 2½-inch diameter hydraulic cylinder, which has been configured to work as a shock absorber. For its achievements, innovation, and efficiency, the Faulring Self-Loading “Roll-Back” Trailer was published in “Farm Show” magazine.
